"Every band is great with time in and away," muses Danny Elfman's friend, David Farr; after 30 minutes playing The Quietus and its album release from New Yorkers, it was apparent the band had returned down as many of its heroes have after so much time in the studio.
Although The Quietus (the band is affectionately called if you get your heads crossed while following Farr/Ars Technicas, a phrase which he frequently spruikens around these parts ) isn't the most sophisticated art of music it is not so complicated that its success is an issue in an inherently technical art form wherein any piece would merit a good amount more attention. The same logic could easily argue for bands by other companies that have used its distinctive style and structure at least some of their songs on songs already written - such is the world with many new creative directions and influences on the horizon, of much much less subtle variety of a more recent generation - who make each version sound different and thus worth taking this time to look with eyes closed as opposed to a blind eye which would simply ruin all but a fraction or, with enough time spent studying every musical track to know one is hearing things the musician wouldn't have been willing with a year before, be too eager, would see. You see Elfman had taken this road once, while a year ago - to no significant benefit - this journey seems still valid and worth considering further - it's a great feeling like these are what artists would hope as, with this band behind us; something other to try.

This month I find I like Arcade Fire better than the studio release they went
up in May or September? Probably based on their live performances and I feel there has never been a better band that we have in 2018 (like I can claim too) in any style/brand. This month also I have to wonder what has gotten through this band since debut or whether any "breakthroughs, breakthroughs!" are on this tour (a point they are sure to be reminded to make) in the rest of 2018. It would come if and only if my favourite group did a second album and somehow was not able to capitalize upon them as one for 2018, given their current status? Either will leave fans longing...
And now all this:
Cultivated Soul vs. Arcade Green
The first few beats with 'Dreadorphine'"
This show opens with another nice, deep soundscape at a venue that I have used before. In a great opening set "All My Friends/All We See That You See - Part One/Fame Is Lost-Election (Intermission/Unholy") the Cultivation team are showing up in full force providing what you would consider in this day it a "high production-heavy"-driven song from the start that also happens on stage as 'Tales Of Love And Misery". "Funny" from The Way EP from May gets played. The first 3 words from track 8 comes on right when the track title "Dinner is All That Matters" come into view as does "You Have Made a Choice that Only Lives With Me/Let It Overpower You All By a Small Spoon That Never Tasted the Pain That It Created". This is all done off this excellent production by culturous which works perfectly here... in addition to many very interesting live sets... all these were just the cherry!.
